Description: Stunning Antique Oil Lamp standing 39cm tall overall. A very pretty free-standing table oil lamp the base of which was made by Taylor Tunnicliffe for Hinks. The font is a pot- bellied shape standing upon four feet and has a blue floral frieze encircling the main body with a faux lid decorated with a coordinating geometric pattern. The underside has a nice clear Taylor Tunnicliffe back-stamp. The top of the font has a lugged type brass collar which is fully marked “Hinks & Son’s Patent” into which a Hinks (No2.?) key lift rise and fall burner is fitted. The Burner is fully marked, has a working snuffer lever and key lift mechanism and integrated gallery. The wick winder turns freely and is marked to the black glass button with the retailer Whitley’s Ltd, London (William Whiteley Limited was a large British retail company founded by William Whiteley in 1863). The burner has a 19cm tall chimney and new wick has been fitted. The gallery supports an antique frilled rim, tulip shaped shade which is beautifully acid etched with a floral pattern that echoes the font perfectly. (Minuscule flea bites to base).
