THE ROSEMALING PAINTING IS THE WORK OF A MASTER ARTISAN, POSSIBLE THE GREAT ANNANAIS TVEIT. THIS IS AN EARLY TINE BOX DATING TO THE 1800S. THE BOX IS VERY RARE IN ITS WONDERFUL RED BACKGROUND. THE PAINTING HAS MAGNIFICENT DETAILS WITHIN THE FLOWERS AND LEAVES AND A VERY UNUSUAL DESIGN AND COLOR PALATE. PARTICULARLY RARE IS THE DESIGN ON THE TOP OF THE BOX. THE PAINTED DECORATED FINIALS OF THE BOX ARE A LOVELY TOUCH TO THE DESIGN. Annanias Midthus Tveit (1847-1924), who apprenticed to his father, Nils Midthus. Annanias mostly painted for farmers in the area and, when he was 25 years old, he purchased a neighboring farm, Tveit, establishing his workshop there. He is considered to be the foremost representative of the pure Os style. He had many apprentices and, for many years, ran a rose painting school from his workshop.
