Description: The Chinese mirror black glaze has long been a favorite of mine; I like the boldness of it, and the depth and quality of the color (which is really the deepest brown imaginable, giving the impression of “black”). This particular Chinese porcelain has a painted, ornate gold decoration, giving it that festive, rich look. The baluster shape is classic; this porcelain vase is particularly appealing insofar as its proportions go. The molded metal base is original to the lamp. I’ve upgraded the electrics, adding the two-socket “S” shaped apparatus you see in the pictures and of course installing fresh wiring. There’s a device that allows the shade to be raised or lowered a couple of inches, a touch that was “de rigeur” in better lamps from this era, long abandoned because of the extra cost. The lampshade is vintage and in excellent condition. It has a beautiful warm glow when the lamps are lit, and is certainly lovely when they’re not. The decorative element around the base of the shade is hand-painted. Measurements: about 26 ½ high. The shade measures 13 ¾ inches wide at its base. Because the shade is fragile, it will be double-boxed (as will the lamp base) and sent by itself, so it arrives at your home in the condition it leaves here; hence the considerable shipping fees!
