Description: Antique Miniature FEATHER Tree Christmas BATTING SANTA In Airplane, Dark Mica Click images to enlarge Description ANTIQUE ORNAMENT Wonderful and rare antique cardboard airplane Christmas ornament measuring about 5-1/2" long, 4-1/4" wide. Heavily covered in dark flecks of mica on all sides, it features a tiny batting Santa pilot with hand painted composition face, paper belt, chenille arms and wool batting beard - even his tiny hands are lumps of composition - so unusual. Unmarked, but made in Germany, condition is good with age related display wear, and airplane is a bit catawampus in shape. Santa's legs are still covered in black batting, but his feet show the exposed wire onto which the batting body was built. The fine thread hanger on his head top is incomplete, but I have always displayed the airplane by threading a fine wire through the separation at the tail joint. Airplane was made by folding the two sides together, folding the tail up (or adding it) and threading the wings through the plane body to give it a three dimensional effect - that way, Santa appears to be flying the plane. Ornament is so rare and unusual - wonderful addition to any antique feather tree or Christmas display! As shown, I have additional dark mica figural ornaments - I collected these for a time to add to my feather tree - others are listed separately - you are only purchasing the airplane ornament.
