This beautiful statue of dancing Hevajra, an important Buddhist deity, presents an excellent blend of an exquisite craftsmanship and great attention to the detail. The statue comes in an exceptionally good state, given its age, and is a pretty rare find. Height 27 cm (10.6 inch), Length 6 cm (2.4 inch), Width 15 cm (6 inch). Material is a green metal solid cast, most probably copper, except for the ornate square base that is made hollow. Dancing hevajra is cambodia art 12th - 13th century . When king jayavarman vii rebuilt the ruined angkor in 1181 with a new buddhist orientation, he made hevajra a central deity. The figure is professionally modelled with features that are characteristic to Khmer statuary of the Angkor period (9th - 14th centuries), known as Bayon style. Dressed in the period shorts, secured by an ornate belt decorated with rosettes, Hevajra is very richly and beautifully adorned, from his head to his feet. Hevajra’s face has broad features, full lips, almond-shaped eyes, a prominent nose and wide smiling mouth, that are typical of Khmer statuary of the Angkor period. Elongated earlobes adorned by earrings frame the face. Hevajra was an important figure signalling the practice of Buddhist rituals, but got a particular emphasis and was later made a central deity under the rule of the Khmer Empire in Angkor, Cambodia, in 12-13th centuries.
