A bit on the history: John F Trommer who emigrated from Germany worked for a large number of breweries. In 1897 he purchased the Stehlin & Breitkopf Brewery. About a year later he passed away. His two sons took over to run the brewery: George F Trommer and John F Trommer Jr. In September of 1907 John F Trommer committed suicide. Headlines read "J.F. Trommer, a Rich Brewer, Kills Himself: First He Slashes Himself with a Carving Knife and then Turns on the Illuminating Gas; He Had Brooded Over the Loss of His Sweetheart." George F Trommer was left with complete command of the Brewery and proved to be a capable leader. When his father died in 1898 and when his brother committed suicide the brewery was successful but small. The Brewery grew to its large size DURING prohibition. In 1919 the brewery produced 46,000 barrels of beer with the number growing to about 300,000 barrels in 1929. (The company produced what was called a "near beer," a beverage with a very low alcohol content that was legally allowed). Save on shipping on multiple purchases!
