Description: Our client's beautiful antique tsuitate screen, 34 in wide and 35.5 in tall, features the finely carved figures of a foo lion on one side, and perched bird of prey (eagle or falcon) on opposite side. Signed. Believed to date from the first quarter of the 20th century, possibly earlier. In good condition. Scuffs, scratches, rubbing wear, nicks and small losses. Such screens of this modest scale have been used since the 6th century in Japan, commonly to screen entrances and block the sun and/or wind.
