Description: Japanese Antique Katagami Kimono Stencil Katazome Details: In late Edo period 1860, Japanese use Ise Katagami for dying fabrics called Katazome. This katagami has a beautiful square plaid with ''H'' letter inside of it and little leaf design on it. These stencils are made from the bark of the mulberry tree and glue extracted from persimmon which makes the paper strong and water resistant. These beautiful Ise Katagami from the Ise area in central Japan have no silk lining, unlike most katagami have. The thickness of the katagami differs on how they use it. Thin katagami is usually used for fine designs and thicker ones used for bold patterns. Material: Mulberry Paper Silk or No silk: No silk outside of the paper Dimensions: Approx. 29cm. x 41cm.
