Description: Cownie Tanning Co. Horsehair Carriage Sleigh Blanket or rug. Dating back to 1900-1910. This timeless blanket or rug measures 67" at its longest point by 51" at its widest point. with a weight of 14 pounds 8 ounces. (Previously valued at over $1,00) Several years ago. The blanket or rug features a black felt backing and green felt scalloped edges that underlay behind the hide and hair from the back. (A couple spots of the edging had some flaws in the making, and a few have small torn spots. The leather is supple soft and in perfect condition. The loushous thick horsehair front including the mane, is from a bay horse with rich red hair, a rare dorsal stripe (darker hair down the back line) and black mane. The blanket was manufactured in Des Moines IA. This rare beautiful blanket is in amazing excellent condition. Pictured are some of the natural imperfections in the hide which highlight the authenticity and add character for display. This piece has truly been well preserved, and is magnificent condition.
