Description: This rug is somewhat DISTRESSED but is still a beautiful piece of NH Folk Art. There is a 6" x 2" loss on the left, a much smaller 1" loss (conserved with stitching) and a smaller 1/2" loss, as shown in photos. The rug is beautifully done, and very worthy of restoration and repair.Antique traditional wool New Hampshire Hooked Rug with floral pattern featuring central medallion on cream field, floral vignette corners, a stylized wide rope border and dark edges, with binding. Good colors and very nice work.Made by Mrs R.D. Smith of Keene New Hampshire for a class taught by Sally Newhall, a very well known teacher and rugmaker active in Southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts in the 1930's and 1940's. Newhall was the author of a very popular book on dying wool for hooked rugs.This rug is DISTRESSED. Great fresh colors, beautiful work. One large loss on left 6" x 2" , smaller losses of 1" (conserved with stitching) and 1/2" in center as shown in photos. Light soil, needs a cleaning, Very worthy of repair & restoration. Stored with mothballs.Will be shipped rolled.
