Description: High quality, antique German violin after Jacobus Stainer in original case, circa 1900. Includes 2 bows, 1 by Richard Geiper This violin was my great grand uncle's. He played with different groups in Connecticut and NYC, classical and jazz, in the early 1900's.The violin plays beautifully, warm, with a full sound. Recently played in the Boston symphony by a friend who is a violinist with them. The violin has no label, but was viewed by an appraiser specializing in violins in NYC and said to be a German violin, circa 1900 or there abouts, after Jacobus Stainer, worth around $4500. The appraiser also said the Richard Geiper bow -with mother of pearl inlays- is worth around $500. The other bow was a good bow, but is not labeled. The violin and bows come with/in the original violin case that needs a new leather handle. All clasps work well. The case, overall, is in great shape, especially the gorgeous, green velvet interior which is in perfect condition. This violin has been sitting in its case for many years, only played recently a few times. It needs to be used and loved. It's such a beautiful, and beautiful sounding piece.
