Description: Antique Prussian Model 1809 Socket Bayonet for use with the 17.9mm Prussian M1809 Flintlock Musket. These were also used in the U.S. during the Civil War. This bayonet is unique in that it doesn't have the mortise that is common on most, this one has a rear notch to secure it to the ramrod. It was part of the new weapon design and reorganization of the Prussian Army (after Jena). Bayonetmeasures 22.5" overall with a blade length of 19.75, inside socket diameter is .869". The elbow/neck area is stamped, "169" and the bottom of the socket by the entrance is numbered, "19". The ricasso area of the blade is stamped with a "B", underneath/opposite side shows a "S". Very good condition overall with 10-15% showing some pin-prick pitting with the remainder showing scattered tones of age patina with original finish remaining. See our other Items at TR-West!
