German Book HISTORISCHER HAUSSCHATZ HC Embossed 1889 Laurer & Mattill Antique

Description: Estate find, from 1889 this antique book Historischer Hausschatz is a German Speaking History book. It has world history as well as United State History. The book, by Laurer & Mattill is dated 1889, Cleveland, Ohio. The book is hardcover, possibly leather although I am not sure, and embossed and I believe the outside pages may have been gold colored at one time, they are not any longer. There is a gold embossed "shield" on the front that still has the gold color. I used Google Translate and taste of a small translation says "Follows an excellent history of the American colonies and the United States" another snip says "knowledge of the history of the country of which we are citizens is absolutely necessary in order to be able to properly appreciate the country and it's people, customs". The book has some condition issues although I believe all pages are still intact. There is some separation on the spine and the inside pages. There is a small chunk out of the bottom corner and a small hole in the spine. It appears a section of the pages may have been nibbled on. There is also a bit of the back cover scraped.
