Description: Bonjour, welcome to Les Toiles Blanches stock!here a lovely valance mantelpiece cover that dates beginning of the 20th century.The fabric is a light weight cotton with a crispy texture and lilac and copper tones on an off-white ground.The floral decor is stunning, made of large scale flowers and foliage falling from the top of the valance.The curtain has lots of gathers at the top and a nice drape.The valance has the classic long rectangular shape to cover the top of the chimney or shelf but it has been cut on the bottom, and the fabric is shorter on one side than on the other. Condition reflected in the price.This antique textile has some rope hand sewn on the back of the top hem to hang the curtain, see the picture. A lot of antique textiles are so robust and wonderfully easy to wash and maintain. The fibres of these exceptional fabrics were grown without any use of chemical, these textiles are organic. No need to use chemicals to wash antique textiles, a good simple natural soap such as the savon de Marseille is fine for every kind of linen. The textiles can be machine washed on warm. The warmer they will be washed, the softer and floppier they will turn. Again, no need to use a softener, a dash of white vinegar or a spoon of baking soda are perfect to maintain these wonderful textiles. Dry them on the line if possible, expose them under sun light to brighten the natural white. information The textiles I propose show signs of times, marks that are a moving, precious treasure which attests a bygone era.
