Antique French Art Nouveau Bronze Figure Lamp, Le Moissonneuse, The Gardener

Description: Stunning c.1890-1900 antique French Art Nouveau bronze figure lamp/sculpture titled 'Le Moissonneuse' (The Gardener)'. The lamp has three porcelain/ceramic light fixtures disguised as metal 'flowers', possibly tulips. The fixtures use standard screw-in bulbs. The original cord has been cut at the base so it will need to be rewired if used for lighting. This is from an old estate and was stored in the attic.I cleaned much of the dust with a wet sponge but there is more to be cleaned, particularly the intricate bronze base. Use only water, no solvents, to preserve the original patina. Dimensions: 28" H x 21" W Weight: 11 pounds The lamp/sculpture features an attractive, strong and obviously proud woman gardener posing with a rake within a circle ('wreath') of leaves, showcasing her beautifully. The lamp is all-original. One leaf on the top-left that has been reinforced with old wire where it separated from the circular ring (refer to photos). The lamp/sculpture is mounted on a wood base with metal plate title, 'Le Moissonneuse,'. This is as much a functional lamp as it is an art nouveau sculpture showcased by the three lights. The large 28" circular metal ring ('wreath') and attached leaves serve as the perfect frame for the woman gardener. The circle itself has many metaphorical connotations: Earth, Moon, Circle of Life, and even the womb, as in Mother Nature. The woman poses with an expression of pride, her gratifying work and simple joy of tending her garden and being in Nature. Prototypical art nouveau in style and flowing design, taking it's inspiration from vegetation and flowers. This is an incredible, beautiful functional art piece that will once again be enjoyed and admired after having been stored away for a very long time. Sold as is, as shown, as described.
