Description: Antique Folk Art Figure Grandma Ritchey Hand Made Doll Clothes & Case Vtg READ! It is not marked by its maker on the figure or case itself- however it comes with an equally old tag that has some information about the work itself and the maker. It was hand crafted by one Grandma Ritchey, and is noted as a Grandma Ritchey doll/ figurine. The note reads “Artie Head (presumably the dolls name) is ‘Free Thinking’ and almost a ‘face eater’ too! Folks all call him ‘Chuckle’ and he sure is an old “Chuckle Head” (illegible)! He’s ‘odd as Dick’s Hatband’ but (illegible)!” Continued on reverse; “Arthur was never known to harm man or beast. A real folk doll by Grandma Ritchey” If I had to guess I would estimate 1910s-mid 20s on this piece, but Im really not sure. It could be earlier, more turn of the century, or a 1930s item. One thing that is obvious besides the genuine age is the quality of craftsmanship. The clothes appear to be entirely hand sewn & made from scratch. The case is hand built from solid wood with glass to protect it. It appears to possibly have real hair as hair. I believe the body is made from some kind of hand moulded natural resin /wax mix or some other media- definitely not plastic but I cant quite place it. To the best of my knowledge this is a unique 1 of 1 piece. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of styles of decor. It makes this an excellent extra piece for your collection, one your friends definitely wont have! It is a great collectors item, a premier piece of interesting americana / folk art for use display gifting or decor. It is in good condition, with no major damage. One glass panel in the front is missing and could be replaced, and one side one has a very small chip along the base- no cracks. The wood is in nice condition and of sturdy construction. The figure is held upright by means of a small metal support that goes up his back. It appears his legs are attached at one point at well, so this is definitely more a nice display item rather than for playing with. I have not removed him from his support piece or the case at large to avoid damage, and have only lightly cleaned for the same reason. It looked like his outer wear would brighten up if correctly cleaned with proper methods. Thank you for your consideration, reasonable offers always considered.
