Antique Edwardian Silk w/Lace Insets Tucks Tassels Ruching One piece Dress

Description: It's all in the details in this lovely Edwardian dress, its graceful lines accentuated by elegant embellishment that is never overdone. It is made of cream colored silk, with lace and tulle insets. The dress is in excellent condition for its age. The bodice is a confection of subtle details: the high neck and decolletage are of tulle, pintucked and topped with a tiny edge of braided trim (some repair/reinforcement may be needed at the edge and at the boning at the back of the neck). The vee of the neckline is framed with lace. A soft lace-edged collar falls away from the shoulders to the sides of the bust, ending in a tassel. The bodice front is gathered and bloused in the "pigeon breast" style of the turn of the century; the back closure enhanced by long tucks. At the waist, lace insets alternate with bands of tucked silk. Longer tucks hug the upper hipline and are released into the fullness of the skirt. The bottom of the skirt features four broad, horizontal tucks of silk with an inset of lace in the middle. The elbow-length sleeves are formed with layers of tulle ruffled and ruched, capped with lace and with lace insets, ruffles and a tiny bow at the cuff. The dress fastens up the back with hooks and silk thread closures. There are only a few inconspicuous repairs on the dress: a tiny mend to the silk in the folds at the bustline, and a stitch or two in the ruching on the sleeves. As mentioned earlier, some repair might be needed on the neck to prevent the edge from tearing and where the boning may cause irritation.
