Likely produced in the early 1919s, this bear features classic characteristics of the period, including a jointed body and a distinctive triangle head design. Features: • Material: Short Mohair and excelsior stuffing, no odors • Color: Light brown • Joints: Fully jointed at the head, shoulders, and hips • Design: triangle head, long arms, tear drop foot pads and a well-defined snout. 17” tall. He has 4 claw stitches on each foot & a few remain on the mended with leather paws. Glass eyes. The horse he rode in on is not included in this offering. Condition: This antique teddy bear is in good condition as well as being so handsome. The mohair fur shows expected wear, particularly around the snout and joints, as well as the felt paw pads. The 2 arm pads were covered in leather a long time ago. Both foot pads have minor holes, exposing the excelsior. The bear’s joints work freely, allowing for various poses. There is some surface wear consistent with age, a small tear can be found at the base of his right ear, as if he wear carried around by the ear..He had a growler in the tummy, but that no longer works. He is a well-preserved bear for his age. Background: This bear is a wonderful example of early American teddy bears, which were often handmade with great care and attention to detail.
