Antique Early 19th Century Silk Bodice from 18th Century Embroidered Yellow Silk

Description: Offering another early 19th century fancy ballgown bodice from my personal collection. I wish the skirt from this ballgown had survived, but only this bodice was preserved. Although the bodice is 19th century Victorian, this marvelous fabric dates to the 18th century snd is silk taffeta. My photos don't do justice to the yellow silk; it is much richer and brighter in person--just the most sumptuous shade of yellow with beautiful polychrome embroidered sprigs and bouquets scattered on it. This was expensive fabric when it was created and it is easy to see why it was saved and later used to make a new, fashionable gown. The bodice has a shallow V point in the front below the waist, and short sleeves that have been folded and ruched, then finished with an even tighter pleated edge. The back closes like a corset and each lacing hole is hand-finished. The lacing is no longer present. The inside of the bodice is completely lined, including inside the sleeves, with an ivory polished cotton lining. There is a very faint water stain on the lower right that is barely noticeable. The bodice is entirely hand-sewn and there is no weakness to the fabric at all. It is strong and supple; a beautiful piece of historic costume.
