Description: Antique double picture frame.Wooden center divider, this frame is made to hold two pictures or photographs, side-by-side.Gold painted composition ( gesso ) over carved wood. The frame currently holds a pair of religious prints :1. Jesus Christ shortly before the crucifixion with crown of thorns, hands tied, and holding the rod with which he was beaten.Drops of blood are on his forehead, temple and neck.2. The Blessed Virgin Mary , Mother of Jesus , with her eyes raised and hands clasped.Her eyes are raised toward Heaven. Each of these two prints is 5 7/8" x 8" Includes the original two sheets of glass. This is an early 1900s picture frame, circa 1920 or earlier.Several "sliver" air bubbles can be seen in the glass. ( improvements in the manufacturing process had virtually eliminated the presence of air bubbles in sheet glass by the 1920s ) 100+ years old. ------ Frame Dimensions : Overall frame size : 10 1/4" x 14 1/2" Rabbet ( picture size that fits the frame ) : (2) 5 7/8" x 8"( each of the two windows is about this size ) Sight ( viewing area, from the front ) : about 5 1/2" x 7 1/2" The frame is about 3/8" thick The sides are about 1 3/8" wide. ---------- Condition.Frame surface wear, with a few small dings.( see the photos )The old glass has a couple of scratches but is otherwise good.Remnants of the original brown paper backing at the back.The original wire hanger is still in place. 100+ years old. Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
