Stead, Sarah Bernhardt, Mata Hari, Oscar Wilde, Grover Cleveland, Thomas Edison, the Prince of Wales, General Kitchener, William Ewart Gladstone, and Joseph Chamberlain. This is an atheistically beautiful and early copy of a fascinating book and an edition that is hard to obtain. Additional notes and pages from the previous owner are tucked inside. This is the 17th impression. An impression comprises the whole number of copies of that edition printed at one time, i.e. without the type or plates being removed from the press.” The two terms have become hopelessly entangled but are not the same thing. For example, a ‘tenth impression’ printed from the same type-setting five years after the first, would still be part of the first edition.” In very good condition for the age of this book. Some wear, binding firm in most places with occasional loose page. Some wear to edges and loose at base of spine. Slight tanning overall. Slightly bumped and creased corners.
