Description: For Sale is an Antique Central Scientific Co Laboratory Apparatus IONIZATION RADIO-ACTIVITY. Ok, first and foremost I do not have a clue. With the photo of the catalog I am assuming that this may be an ionization chamber of some sort, BUT that is just an uneducated guess. Somehow I suspect people used this to play with things that nobody realized were dangerous back in the day, you know similar to treating syphilis with mercury. From what I can tell this appears to be pretty complete minus the rubber bulb that attached to the bottom. I actually got brave enough to plug the electrical cord in and the lightbulb in the chamber actually came on. On the brief test run there were no sparks, smoke or flames and my house didn't burn down. So that is all good. Of course this can use a good cleaning to say the least, all of the glass is in tact. There is a glass protrusion pointing inside the chamber there may have been a 2nd one at one time but not really sure. I found a picture of this on the page from what was supposed to be a 1937 catalog. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Like I said I'm pretty clueless on this one.
