It features a metal photograph of a man dressed in what appears to be Civil War era to late 19th century civilian attire with a "chin curtain" or "strap" style beard/facial hair with a staunch expression on his face and stiff posturing. I am fairly certain that it is a tintype/ferrotype rather than a daguerreotype or ambrotype but cannot guarantee as antique photographs is not my area of expertise.
