Description: A quite beautifully carved sailors coconut shell with lid and stand. Carved into the shell are the words USS Denver Coronto 1912 USMC The United States Marine Corps on the ship USS Denver were in Nicaragua in 1912 due to political unrest in the area. Much more info on USS Denver can be found on Wikipedia. This coconut would have been carved by one of the sailors whilst docked in Corinto at the time. It also has the words Republica De Nicaragua carved into it along with many tropical looking animals, birds, foliage and flowers. In fantastic condition although the stand has been glued in one area as it has been cracked at some point ( Not that noticeable) Measures 11cm long x 8cm deep x 12cm tall whilst on the stand. A great unique piece of US maritime history
