Description: Antique Cabinet Card Photo Wimberly Fort Meade SD Man in a 3-Piece Suit, Watch Chain, Fur Hat This is a nice antique cabinet card photo showing a man wearing a three-piece suit complete with a watch chain on his vest. Note the fur hat on the stairway baluster next to his left hand. Under the picture it says Wimberly and Ft. Meade South Dakota. The subject may have been a civilian living at the Cavalry Post at Fort Meade or a soldier in civilian clothes. It is very likely the photo dates to the period between Custer’s demise at the Little Big Horn in 1876 and the time of the US military battle with the Sioux Indians at Wounded Knee in December 1890, when Fort Meade, just east of Sturgis, South Dakota was a US cavalry post. The 4-⅛ x 6-⅝ inch scalloped edge cabinet card was apparently once owned by a person called Hoel of Sturgis, South Dakota as that name is stamped on the back. It has two small piece of scotch tape at the top and some of the coating is missing from the back. Our photos show the actual item we offer for sale, exactly as shown.
