Description: Antique Flight & Barr Worcester Porcelain Royal Lily Rimmed Soup Bowl c.1792 to 1804 The 'Lily' pattern was first made at Worcester around 1775-80 where it was used on an extensive range of shapes. The pattern combines underglaze blue and gold borders, and frequently an iron-red or brown rim was added to imitate the appearance of the Chinese originals. The simple 'Lily' pattern was elevated to royal status in 1788 following the visit to Worcester of King George III and Queen Charlotte. Having seen this pattern during their tour of the factory the royal couple decided to order a complete breakfast set in this pattern. -Maker: Flight & Barr -Pattern: Royal Lily -Place of Origin: Worcester -Dimension: Approx. 9 5/8" (24.4cm) diameter x 1 1/2" (4 cm) tall at the rim -Made in England -Condition: This rimmed soup bowl has an incised "B" mark on the underside which was used by Flight & Barr from 1792 to 1804 (see photos 16 & 17 - the 17th photo is of the book "Flight and Barr Worcester Porcelain 1783-1840" by Henry Sandon). The bowl is made of soft paste porcelain which has a slightly greenish translucency when light is shown through it. This bowl has no chips, cracks or crazing, and all of the gold trim is in excellent condition, only the reddish-brown trim on the edge of the rim shows any sign of wear (see photos 8 through 10). When it was made this dish would have been referred to as a "soup plate", but for the sake of clarity and descriptive purposes I have chosen to use the more modern name of "rimmed soup bowl" for this piece. All of the photos you see in this listing are of the actual "Royal Lily" rimmed bowl you will receive, I do not use stock photos. Collector's Note: In researching this bowl I have used the following books: "The Ewers-Tyne Collection of Worcester Porcelain at Cheekwood" by John Sandon, "Flight and Barr Worcester Porcelain 1783-1840" by Henry Sandon, "Royal Worcester Porcelain and the Dyson Perrins Collection" by Harry Frost and Wendy Cook and "An Illustrated Encyclopedia of British Pottery and Porcelain" by Geoffrey Godden. Note: This "Royal Lily" rimmed soup bowl ships in one to two business days of receiving your order. All orders ship with the US Postal Service and include tracking. If you have any questions, feel free to message me - I check my messages throughout the day, even on weekends. This is just a listing for the "Royal Lily" rimmed soup bowl, all of the other items seen in my first photo are just props and they are not for sale as part of this listing.
