This lovely brass instrument measures approximately 11 inches tall with a 10 inch long telescope and weighs approximately 20 pounds. The compass face is marked "C.G. King/Boston". The “C.G. King Boston” inscription on this compass is that of Charles Gedney King (1808-1858), a mathematical instrument maker who apprenticed with his father, Gedney King, and traded under his own name after his father’s death in 1839.
