Description: I have here for sale a rare surviving antique toasting fork constructed from a Blackbuck Antelope horn which is mounted with a cap at the top end and a three prong fork at the other. The white metal has no identifying hallmarks as far as i can see but looks to my eye be possibly Indian silver, certainly not plated metal and solid, however please study the photos for yourself before making an offer as you will be the expert. When i came across this item the white metal pieces were almost completely black due to use and the considerable age of this item, a very light sympathetic clean has revealed the metal beneath. My research strongly suggests this antique item to be of Indian origin and most likely dates from the late 1800s to the turn of the last century. Measures 47cm long total length and the metal toasting fork part measures about 13cm long by 5cm across the three prongs. As far a very light clean to reveal the metal I have left this item as i found so as not to remove the many years of patina to the horn built up over the years. The fork and end cap are firm so this item is in good order. A very rare surviving antique from the early 1900s, a superb display or use item and a real talking point. Thanks for looking and any questions please email.
