Description: Antique Australian 9ct Gold Brooch, Johnson and Simonsen. Australia and Branch. This is a stunning gold antique brooch. It is a curved outline of Australia set on a gum branch. On the centrepiece, there are small purposeful indentations on its design, and on the branch there are textured markings mimicking the surface of a gum tree. This piece is very collectible. I recently had it valued by a jeweller for $350. Condition: Very good antique condition. Markings: Its hallmark denotes Johnson and Simonsen of a "Square and Compass". They made their jewellery in 9ct gold, and operated in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Johnson and Simonsen operated in Melbourne from 1895 - 1914 and from 1914 - 1927 their name changed to H. Simonsen Pty Ltd. Simonsen became on of the major jewellery manufacturers in Melbourne, producing a lot their jewellery in 9ct gold.
