Description: Decorative and very finely worked Colonial Anglo-Indian repousse high relief Kutch solid silver bowl with ball feet clearly marked to the base as solid silver (T95 indicating very high 95% purity silver I understand from research) and also with a makers monogram mark (only high quality items bore such marks I understand)I did some research on the maker's monogram mark and found that the escutcheon monogram 'LM' -in a precisely identical format to how it appears clearly on the base of this bowl -was a mark associated with the the late 18th century Scottish silversmith John Mair who worked in Calcutta, India on Cutch/Kutch silver between 1789 and 1796 -see screenshot photo 3.The monogram is EXACTLY the same hence my attribution The lobed panels around the body of the bowl are traditionally decorated with well defined Hindu dancing deities and it sits on four ball feet.Very nice quality high relief workmanship . Similar but UNMARKED bowls online have been described as a 'late 19th century Anglo Indian silver repousse bowl. Likely intended for pickles or sauce/spices.' Condition: One ball foot has slightly moved in so there is a small 'bulge' into the bottom of the bowl Dimensions: Height 5 cm: Diameter approx.10 cm: Weight 121 gramsBrought back from Far East when expat family returned to England in 1950's
