Description: BLACK EBAY! FOUND AT THE BORDER OF QUEBEC AND NEW HAMPSHIRE. STUNNING BLUE WITH A TEENY-TINY HUE OF TURQUOISE AND JUST ABOUT ORIGINAL COLOR....SMALL AMOUNT OF FADE..IF ANY. THE LID HAS SOME PAINT LOSS DUE TO BEING THE AREA WHERE THE HAND USED IT 100X A DAY TO OPEN. AS REAL WOOD DOES AGE AND IF IT IS A SOFTER WOOD, CAN SPLIT OR ROT, IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE BOTTOM DRAWER MIGHT HAVE HAD SOME SLIGHT REPLACEMENT WOOD AS ONE WOULD EXPECTED. IT WOULD BE PRUDENT TO THINK THAT ANY PIECE OF THE LATE 19THC AND BEFORE WOULD BE IN MUSEUM CONDITION. THIS IS NORTH AMERICAN FOLK ART. PEGS AND NEEDLES WERE USED AND I BELIEVE THE KNOB HAD TO REPLACED AROUND 1920. I AM BEING CONSERVATIVE BUT MY INTUITION SAYS 1890S. WHY? IN QUEBEC UP UNTIL THE MID-19THC SALT AND OTHER RARE COMMODITIES WERE TAXED ONCE A YEAR. THE BOTTOM DRAWER HELD THE DOCUMENT WITH THE PAID DOCUMENT. THUS THIS BEAUTIFUL DRAWER AND LID WHICH CONTINUED, ESPECIALLY IN QUEBEC. I FOUND IT RIGHT ON THE BORDER. IT DOES HAVE ATTRIBUTES OF BOTH COUNTRIES BUT THE QUEBEC PAINTED PIECES FOR EVERYDAY USE HAD A ROUNDED TOP EDGE WHERE IT WAS HUNG. H - 78.5. W- 4.5 L- 7 A TRULY EXCITING FIND. A TRUE RARE ADDITION TO YOUR COLLECTION
