Description: Pair of hand-colored horse prints reverse on glass from by Baron d'Eisenberg. This is sold as a set of 2 as shown. EISENBERG, Baron d'. Description du manège moderne. Dans sa perfection. [London: no printer,] 1727. Friedrich Wilhelm, Baron Rais d' Eisenberg (German, ca. 1700-ca. 1770). Engraved by Bernard Picart (French, 1673-1733). From the 1727 publication by Baron Friedrich Wilhelm con Reis Eisenberg, a nobleman and equestrian expert who did the rounds of the courts of Europe, instructing riders in the advanced cavalry moves which became today’s dressage. His illustrated instruction manual to the art of dressage was published in London in 1727, containing illustrations drawn by the Baron himself and engraved by Bernard Picart. These engravings were then printed reverse on glass. That is what we have here. These are very old and were professionally framed sometime in the 1990s I assume. Framing is very well done, wood frames in gold. Reverse glass has some crazing on the edges and a little color loss at edges as shown. Horse and rider and all of the main focal point are exquisite. These are marked in the corners: LE GALANT XXXVI LE JOLT LV Framed each measures 16.5” x 13”. Inside reverse on glass measures 12.75” x 9.5”. These will be very well packed and shipped insured. Buy with confidence. Some and pet free home.
