Description: This auction is for a fabulous 1847 Watercolor Painting. I got this recently from a fine Cambridge, Mass. estate and I don't known much about it. The owner of the estate is a woman in her 80's and the painting may have come from her mother. Her mother was a renowned artist and she traveled a lot in Europe during her day. The painting itself is 8 3/4" x 5 1/2". It is matted and framed. The frame is 14 /12" x 11 1/2". I took the painting out of the frame on the off chance that I'd find a signature. What I found on the back is "On the Regents' Canal 21st May 1847" written in brown ink. It may say "1837." In addition, there is a pencil sketch of the canal on the brown backing paper. This is all I know about the painting, but I assume it is by an early to mid 19th c. British landscape painter. I would appreciate any further insight- feel free to get in touch. See photos.
