Description: Superb, I believe this is circa 1800, fine antique handcolored map, titled America. I could find no other examples on the net of this map, so it is very rare. The map shows North America and South America. In the North America area, the United States is only at the right hand side area, and Washington is spelled Wafhington, still using the archaic F for S. There is a huge Louisiana area, and Texas is not named on the map. On the West Coast there is a large New Albion area, and California is shown on the lower peninsula only, the Baja Peninsula as it is now known. Many more fascianting areas and details, including fascianting named Native Indian tribes. Printed at bottom middle is Edinburgh; W. & A.K. Johnston- Glasgow, Robert Weir- Lamsden & Son. Fascianting and rare map. Printed on thick paper, with no printing on reverse. The size of the map is 10.25" by 13.5". Winning bidder pays $3.75 shipping domestic, more foreign.
