Description: This is a four volume complete set of the Breviarium Pictaviense from 1765. The four volumes represent all the liturgical seasons of the Roman Catholic Church. The breviary is used for praying the Liturgy of the Hours. I translated "Breviarium Pictaviense" using Google translator and it apparently means that the breviaries are for the people of Poitiers, France. The books were printed in Poitiers, and one of the full page engravings is of Saint Hilary, who was the Bishop of Poitiers and a Doctor of the Church. Note that all four books are in Latin. There are many engravings. Please see photographs which accompany this listing. The books are 6 3/4" X 4" X 1 3/4" and are 259 years old. The spines of all four books have decorative raised bands. The covers are leather over hardcover boards and the edges of the pages show the remains of being gilt at one time. Edges of covers were also gilded at one time, but much of this has worn off. There are remnants of ribbon page markers. The end papers are beautiful marbled paper. There are also some page markers that have been inserted between pages, such as a small hand-drawn Sacred Heart, small scraps of paper with writing on them, and small squares of what appears to be vintage wallpaper. The books are in good condition considering their age. The four volumes:1 Pars Verna (spring): This book has 508 pages plus about 100-150 unpaginated pages. 2. Pars Aestivalis (summer): This book has 560 pages plus about 100-150 unpaginated pages.3. Pars Autumnalis (autumn): This book has 532 pages plus about 150-200 unpaginated pages.3. Parts Hiemalis (winter): This book has 564 pages plus about 100-150 unpaginated pages.
