Description: Presented is a wonderful antique American 14 karat yellow gold, pearl and enamel pin or brooch, dating to the mid to late 1800s. The pin is made in a fantastic design of a white enamel and pearl wreath, with an American military officer's type sword passing through the wreath. The sword is particularly well rendered with a high degree of detail, down to the open beak of the eagle's head pommel and the tiny but intricate American eagle and shield crest on the sword's guard. The leaves of the wreath are decorated with white enamel with faint delicate green veining for a touch of realism, alternating with real, natural seed pearls. The pin has an old C style clasp as well as a loop in back so it can support a lapel watch or other dangle. This piece is in excellent condition. The pearls are clean and in good shape, securely set. The enamel is in good shape overall, but the leaf right by the back of the sword handle has a chip, and a couple of other leaves have tiny losses to the edge, nothing noticeable without close careful inspection however. The clasp functions well and closes securely. The pin is not stamped or hallmarked, but we have tested the piece with nitric acid and guarantee it to be 14 karat gold. The pin measures about 1 1/4 inches long. This pin weighs 5.3 grams. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
