Description: Anthurium hookeri, also known as Anthurium huegelii and neglectum is not the common birds nest Anthurium typically found, however the name tends to apply to any bird nest type regardless of the true taxonomic origins. Many are more closely related to Anthurium schlechtendalii or plowmanii. It is relatively rare in nature and actually produces white berries instead of red. First described by German botanist Carl Sigismund Kunth, it is an aroid found on many of the lower eastern Caribbean islands and observed in Venezuela and South America. The plant for sale in this listing is Anthurium hookerii variegated. It may not follow the true hookeri species, but does keep the bird nest shape and is highly variegated! 2" Pot *You will receive a plant similar to the plant pictured. Plants may or may not have dried ends, torn/broken leaves, but is unlikely. Not all leaves or flowers of this plant may be present when shipping as seen in the photos. This plant may show high levels of stress from transit through yellow, drooping, or dropping of leaves/flowers. It may take an additional 2-3 weeks to recover (provide proper humidity during the recovery time). ------------------------------------------ Foliage: Leaf blades are oblanceolate and can be up to 3 feet long. Leaves are widest just above the middle of each blade. Leave edges are typically smooth and do not possess the ruffled edges. Black glandular punctates may be seen on the undersides of the leaves. Blooms: Yes - Not showy and rarely blooms indoors. Zoned: 10-11 Environment: Medium to high humidity. Tolerates indoor levels, but with slight difficulty, and will appreciate a more humid environment. Grows best in 65-80 degrees F and will tolerate as low as 40 degrees. This plant is cold-sensitive and will show it when upset. Light: Bright, indirect indoors. Cannot tolerate lower light levels indoors for extended periods of time. All-day direct sun will burn the leaves, but morning sun is helpful in growth. Outdoors provide 50-70% shade. Soil: Aroid mix or superior-draining peat-based or soilless mix Water: Requires an evenly moist soil, but really prefers to dry out slightly between watering. This plant is sensitive to overwatering and underwatering. Overwatering can induce leaf drop and underwatering is evident in curling/drooping/crispy leaves. Reduce watering in winter as growth slows. Overly damp soil may encourage leaf drop and disease. Requires great air circulation.
