The stunning Alvar Aalto Tank Chairs were originally designed in1936 by Alvar Aalto, for an exhibition at the Milan Triennial, where it was awarded a design recognition. This set was manufactured in the early 1990's. The chair is called the Tank chair due to its distinctive wide and sturdy armrests make of form-bent birch arms and base, and genuine leather upholstery. The springy cantilevered frame offers a flexible, comfortable seat. The 400 Series remains effortlessly modern and an absolute showstopper in any room, especially when shown in pairs. These two chairs are in beautiful condition. The leather is beautiful and clean with just the seats stretched a bit where seated. The Birch wood is in great shape with a few nicks on the front arms and bottom/back legs. The wood nicks are barely noticeable unless you lean down and look specifically for them. The underneath upholstery is in almost perfect condition, where the fabric is stapled in place. No cats in this household. This set of Tank Chairs are prettier in real life! These photo's are realistic as far as the wear, but the chairs are more impressive in person. These chairs new are around $6500.00 new, each.
