Description: Located between Hollywood & Beverly Hills in Los Angeles & the Mexico border in San Diego, this route contains some superb diesel action along the Pacific Ocean in summer-like weather conditions. Aside from Amtrak, there is also some Santa Fe & southern pacific freights with a Rio Grande unit passing by mission tower, metrolink commuter trains, a visit from Burlington Northern’s office car specials with F-units in charge, sperry rail services detector car 124, & the San Diego trolley. Along the way, there is some behind the scenes action at Carlsbad for the filming of the movie: true identity, as well as a glimpse of a horse race in Del Mar. On the return trip, there is a cab ride onboard B32-8W number 579. An extended cut of the cab ride between the 2 Southern California cities was released in 1994 but with minimal narration from Jim Knight, as this is by far the only Video Rails title to be narrated by a woman. This program was also later available as part of the Great American scenic railroads collection by Questar, & on a 2005 combo DVD by pentrex with the 1994 cab ride itself.
