Description: Up for sale is a USGI M1943 entrenching tool (folding shovel). The shovel was made by Ames and the blade is stamped "Ames 1944". The handle is wood and painted OD green. The tightening collar is rusted and will not move. I was always going to try to put penetrating oil in and take a wrench to it but I didn't want to damage it. My neighbor gave this to me when I was younger after a garage sale he had and I reckon he used it in the war (WWII). One side of the shovel blade is sharpened and soldiers did that for use as a weapon if hand to hand combat was needed. The canvas cover (in OD#3) is in decent usable condition with a little fraying at the belt attachment. On the inside flap it reads "Arnold Manufacturing Co. 1944". I reenact but I'm getting rid of some of my stuff and originals just don't feel right to use. It should go to a collector who will appreciate it. I'll be posting some other WWII originals in the coming days. Please see photos for condition. Let me know if you have any questions.
