Description: Knicknamed the”Believe It or Not Railroad,” the Nebraska-Kansas Railroad was owned by the Ideal Cement Company serving it’s cement works near Superior, NE. At four miles long, it ran from the mill to their rock quarry over in Kansas. Limestone rock was hauled to the mill to produce cement. The railroad operated until the end of 1986 when the cement works was closed. Motive power included a mix of electric, steam and finally diesel. “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” feature in newspapers once certified it as the shortest interstate railroad.
