American Journalist/Critic H. L. Mencken Declines to Award "the prize"

Description: In this brief typed letter signed, Mencken writes "I am sorry, indeed, that it has been impossible to give this interesting article the prize. My best thanks for the chance to see it." Written on an 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" sheet of "The American Mercury" stationery. Henry Louis Mencken (1880-1956) was born and died in Baltimore, MD. He spent much of his career involved with Baltimore newspapers, especially The Baltimore Sun. In 1924, he and George Nathan founded "The American Mercury" and Mencken served as Editor until 1933. Condition: A few spots of mounting residue on verso, mailing fold lines, otherwise very good. Shipping Notes: We ship same day via USPS upon receipt of payment before 3 PM.
