Description: Presented is a fine sterling silver bread dish or oval serving bowl made by Alvin for Black, Starr & Frost. The rim is decorated with a pretty, high relief border of flowers and leaves. This decoration is all cast separately and applied. The center of the bowl is engraved with MS in an elegant script. The underside of the dish is marked with a maker’s mark for Alvin, which has been stamped over with the retailer’s mark for Black, Starr & Frost. Look closely at the photograph of the hallmarks. It is also marked with Sterling and the product number 1815. This bowl was made between 1890 to 1915. The bowl is in fair condition. There is one repair on the bottom of the dish which we have shown from both the interior and the exterior. The metal on the bottom of the dish near the repair is quite thin; you can press it back and forth with your hand. Although, when the bowl is sitting on a table no one will be doing that. There are also a few small dents and dings here and there, but this is fairly minor. There are no other problems that I can find. This piece still has a great look especially when it is filled, that way the border decoration gets most of the attention. The dish measures 6 3/4 inches by 12 3/4 inches and stands 1 3/4 inches tall. The weight is 322 grams or 11.3 ounces. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
