Description: A highly decorative item that will be certain to gather attention, an original 1896 lithograph by the father of Art Nouveau and giant of the Belle Epoque in Europe, Czech artist ALPHONSE MUCHA (1860-1939). The work will appeal to collectors looking for a purely decorative addition to their home or office, as the print at some time in the past was laid down on foamboard and also radically trimmed to the custom shape now outlined by the light blue inner mat. A tasteful outer linen mat was then superimposed, and then a fine, hand-carved gilded frame was added. No doubt, a large amount of money was spent on just this frame, which is most striking and unusual. It is asymmetrical, adding to the appeal. The print also has some apparent old repairs at the top portion of the rectangular area, showing now as white meandering lines (presumably some sort of fill material), and a slight disturbance in the paper at extreme lower left. In sum, this is a beautiful print, an authentic print of the period, that is offered strictly on its decorative merits at this point, due to the condition issues. The purist print connoisseur might look to other examples that are closer to their original condition. The piece as framed measures 27" by 15". There is a tiny chip out of frame edge, barely noticeable. There are reflections in some images. More photos upon request.
