Description: The scarce first edition. It is in good shape. The covers are bright and secure. There is minor fraying at the extremities, two breaks in the front hinge and spotty bubbling. The interior hinges are holding but have cracked. The front free endpaper has a slight tear and crease. The textblock is clean and unmarked, although moderately toned. This is the Little Brown edition. The Sampson Low edition is identical except for the company name on the title page. Jane's ATWFS was an immediate success and demanded a second printing. Little Brown may have been brought in for that purpose. I have done a page for page comparison and they are identical except for the bottom of the title page/frontispiece.
