Alice Neel Original Limited Edition Signed Color Lithograh "The Evans Twins"

Description: This is an original lithograph by renowned artist Alice Neel (American, 1900-1984) titled “Evans Twins”. This is pencil signed and dated by the artist in the bottom right and numbered in the bottom left as PP2/6. (The total signed and numbered prints in the edition were 1thru 75 with 1thru 6 Artist’s Proves and 1thru 6 Printer’s Proofs of which this is #2.) This was printed and signed in a limited edition in 1982. It measures 31 1/2" x 42". The print is fine condition having never been framed or matted. Prices of Alice Neels artworks have surged recently since of her widely acclaimed Retrospective held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York city in 2021. As a result, some of her limited edition lithographs are being sold at auction for tens of thousands of dollars. The Evans Twin print is currently being offered in New York City Galleries for upwards of $6000. On eBay her lithographs of similar size and subject are being offered between $4800 and $34,500 with most in the range of $10,000. One of the great portraitists of the 20th century, Alice Neel painted stark, honest pictures of her relatives, lovers, friends, activists, and neighbors in New York City. A successor to the many great Expressionists, Neel used distorted drawings and near-Fauvist palettes to reveal the character beneath her sitters' physical appearances. She worked in obscurity for most of her career, then gained acclaim during the last two decades of her life. Today, Neel’s work can be found in most major art museum collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC),the Art Institute Of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art (NYC), the Tate (London), and the Modern Museet (Stockholm).
