Korda’s photograph was rejected for publication by his newspaper and “remained unknown until Korda gave a copy to an Italian visitor in 1967. When Guevara died soon after, the Italian quickly began distributing the picture. Korda never received royalties, but the photograph eventually made its way around the globe” (New York Times). In Cuba “Korda’s photograph is permanently installed in the Plaza de la Revolución and pinned on the walls of most homes” (Goldberg, 159).
