Description: Albert Gallatin Dade 9th Virginia Cavalry [Lee's Light Horse Cavalry] May 18, 1861 War-date Promissory Note Merchants Bank of Baltimore, Maryland The note was for $265 [about $10,000 today] payable by Albert G. Dade to Samuel Richard Jackson, both of Rices Store, Westmoreland County, VA The note was to be paid through the Merchant's Bank of Baltimore of which the famous John Hopkins was President at the time. Hopkins was a staunch Lincoln supporter The note, however, was not paid. I suspect because Albert Dade enlisted on May 25, 1861 as 1st Lt. 9th VA Cavalry [Lee's Light Horse Cavalry]. He was promoted to Major on 11/1/62 in charge of the brigade commissary. His son, Henry F. Dade was his clerk for the entire war Also included is the original envelope addressed: “Albt. G. Dade Rices Store Westmoreland County Va” Research included with purchase. [Any glare on photos is my camera!] Shipping to lower 48 states USA only Thanks for looking at my auctions
