Description: ARTIST: Nis Jessen is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions and exhibited several times. He was born in Southern Jutland, but moved to the island of Bornholm, where he started his own gallery with his wife and lived most of his life. He is perhaps most famous for having illustrated the re-issue of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes – a study in scarlet”, which contains more than 600 illustrations and took Jessen approximately 8 years to complete. He is also known for his portraits of Max von Sydow. PAINTING: Acrylic on canvas. The painting is an emphatic close-up rendering of a young girl from Bornholm called Tara. The way the artist captures her intense, sensitive gaze is truly mesmerizing and intriguingly calls for the viewer to guess what she is thinking. On the back of the painting is an inscription, which gives away the girl’s name and her home island, Bornholm. The painting is dated to 1991. Signed: “Nis Jessen” in the lower left corner and on the back of the canvas. SIZE: With frame: 54 cm/21.3" * 41 cm/16.1". Without frame: 50 cm/19.7" * 37 cm/14.6". CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has minor scratches and stains.
