It is one of the few Fir species that we can grow reliably without using shade cloth in our hot climate (regular 100 degree days through much of the summer). The Turkish Fir is also commonly known as the Black Sea Fir. The dense foliage is very dark green with bright lime colored new tips in the spring and early summer on a smooth conical branch structure. These trees make excellent living Christmas trees and are also popular for cut Christmas tree growers. The roots are more forgiving of irrigated soils than most other Fir species and so is a much better choice for garden landscapes, however they should still be allowed to have fairly dry soil throughout much of the summer. Turkish Fir will not thrive in soggy or heavy clay soils, if this is a concern for you then one of the best options is to grow moisture-sensitive plants like most conifer species in raised garden mounds. Shipping Information Your plants are wrapped in bundles in plastic bags and strapped in place in their shipping boxes and are mailed using either USPS or UPS. Most states require that all the soil be washed away from the roots for field grown plants which also gives us the opportunity to trim the roots into good form. The tops are pruned as needed depending on the species and size of the tree. Our handling time is 1-3 business days occasionally we skip the day before a holiday since plants will be sitting at the post office anyway.
